well, i didnt go to a fun shoot in la grande this weekend because i needed to set up my stand on a wallow. Deeker gave me a good wallow to go to and he warned me it was brushy.

well i set off saturday with a loaded down pack in search of this wallow to hang my stand.

Brushy! .... Brushy! thats an understatement. even the spots that were supposed to be easy i was in 6 feet tall grass / brush. i think maybe it had to do with the wet spring but i dont really know. maybe is was on the wrong trail? the 90 degree weather didnt help much either.

I decided to call it a bust even tho i was pretty much at the wallows when i decided.. Im sure it would be a great spot but to me it was too brushy for an elk id likely be on my own getting out. Call me a #### if you will, i can take it. :( i guess i might just have to spend some time archery deer hunting instead.

anyway, back to square one.... might just be rifle hunting again in 39.

I guess i learned a good lession tho. dont wait until the last minute to get your wallow set up.

next year its going to be an early season camping trip. no one said scouting was easy.

Well I went to the anthony lakes shoot and I had my brother fly Dusty around to scout for elk in the eagle caps. I even got to sip on cold coctails. lol sorry to hear about your trip.

Here's my guess on the deal.... Marcus told you where this "supposed" wallow was to steer you away from the "real" wallow that he has found... He's like that you know..   . I'd stake out his house from a block away, and follow him with your headlights off. He'll lead you right to the good spot.. ;) We went for a ride on the mountain last night (with a couple of pain pills down me), and saw about 250 head of elk (only spikes with cows and calves), and 2 good bucks, and some smaller bucks.. Didn't take either camera. Go figure.... Must have been the medication. LOL.
